A look into the resole process..

With our new range of Vibram soles and one in particular catching my eye, I thought it might be interesting to show you how we resole a pair of trainers. I love these trainers and whilst the uppers are okay, the soles were beginning to wear and rather than buy a new pair I thought resoling them would be a great alternative.

I was more than willing to allow my comfy Converse to be the tester model and will show you the process below in a condensed form.

As you can see, the heel has worn down and the tread on the sole is also wearing through. The first part of the process involves stripping back the rubber sole with our machine to create a clean surface so we can apply our shoe repair glue. Shoes need to be completely dry to allow the glue to form its best bond.

My shoes needed a heel build so rubber is attached to places needed and then scoured back to create a flat surface for the new sole to be attached. The soles are also applied with shoe repair glue, put under a heat lamp and once ready, attached to the shoe to ensure a firm and secure bond. Once they’ve settled the shoes are again scoured around to ensure the sole matches the midsole.

And finally… a new pair of soles! You certainly don’t realise until you’ve had your shoes repaired what a difference it can make. We’ve used black to show you where the build is and how much it has worn down but where possible we’ll match the build material to colour of the shoe. I love these shoes as they’re Gortex and cushioned and I knew I wouldn’t get another pair as comfy. Why don’t you try this the next time you love a pair of shoes and breathe new life into them?
